Singing is the act of creating musical sounds with the voice. A person who sings is called a singer or vocalist (in jazz and/or popular music). Singers perform music (arias, recitatives, songs, etc.) that can be sung with or without accompaniment by musical instruments.​

Vocal Pop is considerably different than traditional pop, which is largely comprised of standards and performed by skilled singers like Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. Vocal pop is considerably lighter, falling somewhere between pop and easy listening.

Vocal jazz or jazz singing is an instrumental approach to jazz using the voice. Similar to a cappella, it utilizes vocal arrangements to create sounds forming music, rather than relying on traditional musical instruments.
One thing about rock technique is that it strays away from a breathy/aspirate head voice and employs a very strong mixed voice. Mixed voice is where you blend both chest and head voice together.
The R&B singer uses vibrato on the sustained tones in ballads but a lot of phrases are conversational and don't require vibrato. The lyrics are very important and the sounds of the voice need to vary to reflect the message
